Kryn is a modern metal band whose roots date back to 2004, adopting their current name in 2008. Their sound is a powerful blend of crushing riffs, dark melodies, and a commanding vocal performance infused with controlled aggression — a combo that’s made them stand out on the European metal scene. Blind Guardian was formed in late 1984 under the name Lucifer’s Heritage in Krefeld, Germany, originally playing speed metal. The founding lineup included vocalist/bassist Hansi Kürsch, lead guitarist André Olbrich, rhythm guitarist Marcus Dörk, and drummer Thomas Stauch. Inspired by Awaken the Guardian by Fates Warning, the band changed their name to Blind Guardian, with rhythm guitarist Marcus Siepen (still a member today) soon joining the fold.

Their lyrics are rich with epic themes inspired by literature, mythology, and fantasy — drawing from the works of Michael Moorcock, Stephen King, George R.R. Martin, and J.R.R. Tolkien.

Blind Guardian are considered pioneers of power metal, among the first to integrate orchestral arrangements and choral vocals into the genre. Known for their electrifying live shows and incredible crowd interaction — led by the ever-charismatic Hansi Kürsch — their concerts are legendary, often turning into massive sing-alongs. André Olbrich’s intricate solos set the gold standard in the genre, and today’s lineup also includes drummer Frederik Ehmke, who adds flute and bagpipes to the mix.

Their debut album Battalions of Fear (1988), produced by Kalle Trapp (Saxon, Grave Digger), bore the strong influence of Iron Maiden and Helloween. Since then, they’ve released 11 more studio albums. Their latest, The God Machine, which they’ll be promoting at this concert, encapsulates their 40-year journey through heavy metal history.

While Kürsch’s lyrics draw from fantasy works like Neil Gaiman’s American Gods and The Witcher, they also explore grim real-world themes — The God Machine deals with modern-day witch hunts, paranoia, war, and the death of Kürsch’s mother. Musically, it includes some of the fastest, heaviest songs the band has recorded in recent years.

With a four-decade career behind them, Blind Guardian remain one of the most innovative and revered bands in the metal world — with a global fanbase and massive influence on generations of artists who share their love for epic storytelling and thunderous sound.
